Are You Really LinkedIn?
It was my goal this year to attend a few LinkedIn webinars and teleseminars to learn more about this social media network.
Most people set up a LinkedIn profile and leave it dormant.
LinkedIn is a search engine and also has a ton of authority on Google and other popular search engines.
Let’s Run a Test:
Go to Google.com and run a search on your name. If you currently have a LinkedIn profile, it will show up on the 1st page. This demonstrates the ranking authority of LinkedIn on Google.
Here are some really cool things that I learned this year:
There are 3 areas to add website links to your LinkedIn profile. Instead of displaying “My Blog” & “My Website”, click on edit and then click on “Other”. Type in a keyword phrase that describes how people can search to find your business.
For example, I changed my main mortgage website to:
Foreclosure Options
I changed “My Blog” to:
Social Media Marketing
I changed my Facebook fan page to:
Facebook Marketing
It is also possible to import your WordPress blog feed to your profile by searching for the WordPress application. This is a fast and quick way for others to scan your blog content.
I had no clue that LinkedIn has its own Direct Ads Campaign targeted to Professionals! I will definitely be utilizing this advertising feature in the new year.
I also found some goodies that will show you how to:
- Quickly add hundreds of connections with just a few clicks
- Use groups to send e-mails in your name to thousands of prospects
- Get recommendations and referrals to help attract more clients

The Power of Video In Your Business
More and more people want to read less and watch videos to obtain their information.
It is so much easier for me to write blog posts, then to get myself ready for a video!
As women, in order to be presentable online, we have to put on makeup and style our hair. My husband is bald so he doesn’t have to deal with bed head. Therefore, he is the video master in our household.
I enjoy waking up, bed head and all to start banging out some articles. I rarely get in front of a camera…but then I found Animoto.com…Ahhh!!! A Woman’s Dream!
Animoto is a site where you can upload photos and even short video clips and they will process it into a professional video with music that you can choose from various musical genres.
There is an area for ideas to promote your real estate business on the site which can be an incredible tool for showcasing your listings.
- Create free 30 sec videos
- Create longer videos for a fee (try one for $3)
- Pay for extended use or professional version

Real Estate & Mortgage WordPress Plugins
I rarely see mention of Real Estate & Mortgage WordPress plugins across the web.
It is common to see lists of SEO based and blog community plugins so I thought I would add specific mortgage and real estate related plugins for this particular post.
I’ve read that there are many real estate and mortgage wordpress plugins that are being developed right now. Here are the ones that I found in the WordPress directory.
Great Real Estate – enables real estate agents, brokers, and REALTORS to display and manage information about their listings.
Mortgage Center – provides
- Real-time mortgage rates from Zillow’s GetRateSummary API
- A monthly payment calculator utilizing Zillow’s GetMonthlyPayments API
- Closing cost estimates (courtesy of Closing.com)
- A few educational mortgage articles (courtesy of Zillow.com Help Center)
- Links to the latest blog posts from Mortgages Unzipped, Blown Mortgage, and Mortgage Reports.
Real Estate Tomato is one of the sites that mentions they are working on new plugins that will be added to their site soon. They also offer great custom real estate and broker blog website designs.

Real Estate Peeps, Are You Using Twitter Lists?
As I mentioned in my previous Twitter list post, I have been brainstorming various ways to utilize Twitter lists in your real estate and mortgage business.
**Are you tired of hearing your own voice on Twitter and your Facebook business page?**
**How about engaging with other people that are in your particular market?**
**How about promoting other GREAT content from around the web?**
I have been using one of the best platforms to manage your social media efforts:
HOOTSUITE.COM
Here are my TOP Reasons for using this site:
- I can manage my Twitter account, Facebook business page, Facebook profile, LinkedIn and Twitter Lists ALL from this site!
- Most people prefer Tweetdeck but it tends to load slowly, NOT true for Hootsuite.
- I can easily keep up with my different Twitter groups of friends and business colleagues.
- I can easily RT great content from my Twitter Lists and provide value.

As you can see, this is a great way to keep up with certain people. Vickie Irwin is coming out my way so it was very natural for me to send her a tweet, “The weather is GREAT out here in LA, let me know if you have time for a meetup!”
Here are 5 Ways to Use Twitter Lists in Your Business
- Group friends by location and keep an eye out for local events
- Group friends by particular niches and promote their content
- Find ways to engage with new people by finding similar interest tweets
- Group friends by specific events or webinars that you attended
- Find out how your friends would like to be listed on Twitter
