I have been getting quite a few requests asking for tips to build their Facebook Business page. I decided to give steps in an incremental fashion so as not to overwhelm everyone. I will be adding tips to this post on a frequent basis so make sure to come back often to implement them.

Tip #1 – Go to your personal Facebook profile and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click on Advertising and look for Pages. You will see a Create page button. Be sure to think through the name of your page. Your Facebook business page name will be indexed by the search engines so keep that in mind. (It is possible to have a business page only, if you don’t currently have a personal Facebook account)

Tip #2 Upload a picture of you or your business logo.

Tip #3 Make sure to add your website to the info tab as well as in the text box under your photo. Write a short bio in the text box as well.

Tip #4 If you have a blog, go to the Notes tab and look for the option to import your blog to your page. If you don’t have a blog, start to consider starting one. Tip #5 Click edit on your page and scroll to the bottom and look for Applications. Browse through various business applications that will be useful to your page. I’ve use a poll application to ask what customers were looking for in particular on a specific page.

Tip #6 Static FMBL is a must have application to be able to add audio clips if you’d like or to even create new tabs such as a Welcome page. It basically allows you to add html code to your page for more enhanced graphics.

I am sure that you just want to get Facebook fans to your business page, let alone raving fans! I thought I would list some ideas here that brought me 100 fans in 5 days.

How To Create Raving Facebook Fans

1. Provide Value and Interesting Topics - LISTEN to what your fans want most and provide it for them.

2. Invite Your Current Facebook Business Contacts – this is a great starting point to get more fans quickly since you already have an established relationship.

3. Add Your Facebook Page Url to Your Email Signature – I have more people comment on my email signature to find out what I’m doing. This is a very easy one time strategy to help increase your fan base.

4. Cross Promote Your Sites – Add your business website or blog to your Facebook business page and on your website or blog add the Facebook business fan page widget to Become a Fan. You can see a sample of this in my right sidebar. This creates a way for your fans to stay connected with you.

5. Run a Facebook Advertising Campaign – This will require a small budget but this has really helped to boost my fan base. You can set a daily budget of how much you would like to target real estate or mortgage professionals. You can find this under “Promote Page with An Ad” on your business page.

Why do you NEED a Facebook business page, you ask? It seems to be just another site to maintain and another task in your already busy schedule. Can’t seem to keep up with all of the top things that you need to do to stay on the cutting edge? Well let me give you some reasons to help you take that leap of faith.

Top 4 Reasons You Need a Facebook Business Page

1. Google Juice – Facebook has an Alexa ranking of TWO. They are the 2nd most trafficked site next only to Google! This means your Facebook page can be indexed faster on Google and other search engines. It’s great to link your business site(s) to your Facebook business page to generate more traffic.

2. Viral Capability – Facebook design allows your site to be seen by friends of your friends. “Your friend is a fan of Naomi Trower, would you like to become one as well?” is one of the greatest word of mouth advertising on Facebook.

3. Unique Url – At one time, a unique url was given if you had 1,000 fans but Facebook has recently lowered the minimum to 25 fans. I was able to reach 100 fans in 5 days with my most recent business page.

Once you reach 25 fans, create your unique url at http://facebook.com/usernames. Before you choose any name, think of a top keyword search term that your potential customer would look for in search engines. It could be 1st time home buyer or forensic loan audit for example.

4. Client Interaction – Your Facebook business page is a great place to interact with fellow professionals and potential clients without having to use your personal Facebook profile. This is especially helpful if your Facebook personal profile is mostly personal friends right now.
