I decided to create a list that you can bookmark and refer back to often for the latest information, trends and conferences going on around the worldwide web. Please feel free to add in the comments your favorite real estate social media resources.

1. Mortgage Revolution

Mortgage Revolution is more than just a non-profit event, it’s a grass-roots movement created by mortgage professionals for mortgage professionals. Mortgage Revolution is all about connecting street level originators and volunteer event coordinators who want to share their strategies that help them succeed in today’s market.

2. The Niche Report

The Niche Report is a highly targeted mortgage finance trade magazine nationally circulated every month to 20,000 (with a reach of over 50,000) licensed mortgage brokers, loan officers and mortgage professionals. There is a print magazine, enewsletter and a blog so be sure to subscribe to all of these resources.

3. Virtual Real Estate BarCamp

Virtual Real Estate BarCamp is a One Day, All-Day, Online Real Estate BarCamp. The REBarCamp phenomenon has exploded over the last year with dozens of in-real-life gatherings where the real estate community comes together to discuss and demystify the current trends in technology and marketing. The goal of Virtual Real Estate BarCamp is to bring this experience to you as opposed to having to bring yourself to it.

4. Real Estate Blog World

Real Estate Blog World is a one day conference embedded within BlogWorld & New Media Expo in Las Vegas, NV. There are two tracks across a diverse and thoughtful group of topics of and related to Real Estate, Blogging, & New Media. This is the conference that will help you take your online efforts up another notch.

5. Commercial Real Estate

Coy Davidson is a commercial real estate broker who uses social media resources and personal branding strategies for Commercial Real Estate Professionals. He has over 20 years of experience in commercial real estate and he provides a fresh social media approach to marketing your commercial real estate business.

6. Real-TechGuy

Real-TechGuy, also known as Jonathan Rivera, helps his fellow real estate agents understand how they can leverage current technology to make their lives easier. He is also known for his close to 40,000 Facebook fan page, The Official Real Estate Referral Group which is Facebook’s largest real estate referral network. It’s also the only REALTOR directory in facebook. There are REALTORS from all around the globe listed in this directory.

7. Web Real Estate Marketing

Web Real Estate Tools provide resources for real estate marketing & social media, including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter & WordPress blogging. Drew Burks & Peter Toner take their experience as real estate agents and share their social media knowledge. Drew is an innovative real estate broker who has built a successful real estate brokerage in San Diego by providing his agents the newest resources & systems to increase their business. Peter is a self acknowledged “techie” agent who uses the web to find buyers and sellers for his team.

8. Steve Rosenbaum

Steve Rosenbaum has led presentations at several Virtual Real Estate BarCamp’s. He specializes in helping companies large and small integrate a profitable sales, marketing and social media networking strategy. I had no idea what The Book of Eli would be about as I walked into the theater this past weekend. I read the movie synopsis prior to going but I still didn’t have a clue. The various themes throughout the movie impacted me so much that I had to share and relate it to social media!

I will do my best to not “give away” the whole movie but just give you enough tidbits to get you into the theater. Here is the vague synopsis that I read before we headed out to watch this thriller:

“In a post-apocalyptic America where the once-picturesque countryside has become a desolate and violent wasteland, one man (Denzel Washington) fights to protect the sacred book that could hold the key to the survival of the human race.”

Here are the 3 lessons that you can relate to social media:

Protect Your Brand

Eli was determined to do whatever it took to protect The Book.

In the online world, we need to do the same. We need to be careful what we post online to protect our business and our personal lives.

Even when it seems the enemy is after us, (a scathing blog post about your business practices from someone that may not fully understand your business model), it is important to be careful with your response but always protect your brand.

Determination To Reach Your Goal

Eli was determined to head West as that was the best location to protect The Book.

Measurable goals are definitely needed in marketing your business with social media.

If your current social media plan isn’t providing new leads and business contacts, it is vital to revise your social media strategy.

Commitment To The Plan

I was in awe of how committed Eli was to reading The Book every day.

He realized that he needed to help others and leave a lasting impact.

The same is true in the world of social media.

It is not about constantly broadcasting your message but engaging with people. Social media is about encouraging others and sharing their work as well. It is not something to try for a few months and abandon, so stick around and be committed to your social media efforts.

My Inspiration For This Post

Although I was very inspired by this movie, I was even more inspired to write this post by my friend Rod Kirby who recently wrote a very similiar post,

It is hard to believe that many more people will lose their jobs this year, when 70,000 lost them on Bloody Monday earlier this year. How can the rest of this year continue to look so bleak after a day like that? I also promised a close friend of mine that has been out of work for several months that I would write an article on creative ways to find work using the social networking site Twitter.

Here are some Twitter Tips for your job search:

1. Use your real name on Twitter (@NaomiTrower) or start another account with your real name if you want to separate your accounts
2. Use keywords for your particular job interest in your bio
3. Link your resume to your Twitter profile
4. Follow employers that interest you
5. Use Twitter Search and Twellow (Twitter Yellow Pages) to search recruiters & people in your field
6. Search for words like #recruiters, #employment, #jobshiring
7. Be careful what you tweet but be sure to tweet “Looking for opportunity in Real Estate Development and open to relocation” as an example
8. Use TweetBeep to get email alerts with job opportunities

The Google Wave buzz is in the air. Google Wave is one of the top trending topics on Twitter right now. What is Google Wave you ask? Well as a site that keeps up with the latest social media, real estate and mortgage trends, we have to keep you up to date!

Google Wave combines e-mail, instant messaging, photo managing and social-networking technologies into a single tool.  Google Wave claims to be able to do everything that Facebook and Twitter can do and even more.

Google Wave has a lot of innovative features, but here are just a few:

- Real-time: In most instances, you can see what someone else is typing, character-by-character.

- Embeddability: Waves can be embedded on any blog or website.

- Applications and Extensions: Just like a Facebook (Facebook reviews) application or an iGoogle gadget, developers can build their own apps within waves. They can be anything from bots to complex real-time games.

- Wiki functionality: Anything written within a Google Wave can be edited by anyone else, because all conversations within the platform are shared. Thus, you can correct information, append information, or add your own commentary within a developing conversation.

- Open source: The Google Wave code will be open source, to foster innovation and adoption amongst developers.

- Playback: You can playback any part of the wave to see what was said.

- Natural language: Google Wave can autocorrect your spelling, even going as far as knowing the difference between similar words, like “been” and “bean.” It can also auto-translate on-the-fly.

- Drag-and-drop file sharing: No attachments; just drag your file and drop it inside Google Wave and everyone will have access.

It is funny how social media is becoming more common and the topic of conversation from The Oprah Show to the mention of Twitter on Desperate Housewives on Sunday May 10, 2009. Here is the Desperate Housewives video clip:

Brad J. Ward was one of the first people to get the video clip on Youtube and his link went viral on Twitter. Take a look at the Retweetist page which shows the massive amount of people that spread the word. First of all, @mashable has a huge following so people take notice, listen and spread the word even more. Can you imagine if you have this same effect as a business? Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) has set the stage for a new Twitter milestone. Ashton Kutcher is the first person to reach 1 million followers on Twitter. He was in a race with CNN and I’ve included his live streaming video below that shows the events leading up to his victory and his celebration party.

He then went on the Oprah show and she now has a new Twitter account (@oprah). The picture below is a snapshot of Oprah’s first tweet. I just cracked up at her calling us Twitters! I actually retweeted a quote from Shaquille O’Neal on Twitter. “RT @THE_REAL_SHAQ You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want” Ashton has taken that step with his gift.

This is taking social media to the next level. There is already a business craze with social media where more and more businesses are turning to social media for their advertising pursuits, so why not celebrities? Ashton donated $100,000 to his millionth follower in appreciation for reaching this milestone. So what do you think? Do you think this will change social media for the better?
